Tell Us What’s Leaking in Your Redland Home
Let us know which room the problem is in and what you can see. We’ll call you back to arrange a visit. If water is coming through now, ring 0117 939 1421.
Leaks From Loft Conversions and Upstairs Bathrooms
Plenty of Redland homes have gained a loft bathroom or a second en suite over the years. They add value, but they also add pipework in places you can’t easily see.
Why Upstairs Leaks Spread
Water always takes the easiest path down. A slow drip from a shower tray can run along a joist before it shows up on a ceiling two rooms away. By the time you spot a stain, the leak has often been going for a while.
What to Do Straight Away
Stop using the bathroom above and turn off the water at the stopcock. If the stain is near a light fitting, switch that circuit off at the consumer unit. Then give us a call.
How We Trace the Source
We check the usual suspects first: shower trays, bath wastes, toilet seals and pipe joints under the floor. We take the least intrusive route we can, so we only lift what we need to.
Shower Pumps
Many loft bathrooms run on a pumped shower. If yours has stopped working or is leaking, we can repair or replace it.

Hard Water, Old Pipes and Redland’s Victorian Homes
Redland’s water is on the hard side. Over time, limescale builds up inside valves, taps and cisterns. It’s behind more plumbing emergencies than most people realise.
Toilets That Won’t Stop Filling
A fill valve clogged with scale can stick open. The cistern keeps filling, and water runs constantly into the bowl or out of the overflow pipe. We’ll clean or replace the valve so it shuts off properly again.
Seized Stopcocks and Valves
Valves that never get touched often seize with scale, which is a real problem when you need them in a hurry. Turning your stopcock a quarter turn each way every few months keeps it free. If yours is already stuck, we can replace it.
Cracked Cast Iron Soil Pipes
Many Victorian houses in Redland still have their original cast iron soil stacks. These can crack with age, leaking foul water down an outside wall or inside a boxed-in corner. An unexplained smell is often the first clue.
You can find out more about your water supply from Bristol Water.

We called MPW Group SW Ltd to request an emergency plumber after our macerator toilet got blocked. They were able to send someone out within the hour and gave the hourly price in advance so we knew how much we would potentially be spending which was a huge bonus. The Plumber (Zach I think it was) came out and was amazing. He was polite, explained everything and then removed the blockage, checked the drains and also took time to ensure that the blades in the unit were still in working order. Once he was done we had a call from the owner to check that all was ok and that we were happy with the service. He informed us how much it would cost and advised he would send the invoice across. We were happy with the amount considering the situation we were in. Thank you! Much appreciated and apologies for the delay in the review. I would recommend MPW in the future.Posted on Google![]()

We had our air conditioning installed today by Dave and Ben from MPW, and we could not be happier with the service we received. From our initial enquiry, the response time was incredibly quick, and the excellent service continued right through to the installation. Dave and Ben were professional, friendly, hardworking, and incredibly tidy. Their workmanship was excellent, and they took real pride in doing a first class job. They were happy to answer any questions and made the whole installation process smooth and stress free. A special mention has to go to Ben. He really gives you faith in the younger generation. He was polite, friendly, respectful, and worked incredibly hard throughout the day. He is a real credit to MPW. We would not hesitate to recommend MPW to anyone looking for air conditioning installation. Fantastic customer service, a quick response from the very beginning, excellent workmanship, and a genuinely great team. Thank you, Dave, Ben and Matt.

Redland Emergency Plumbing FAQs
Not every plumbing problem needs someone out at midnight. These answers will help you decide what’s urgent, what can wait until morning and what to do in the meantime.
Is a Constantly Running Overflow Pipe an Emergency?
Usually not straight away, but it wastes water and can freeze in winter. Call us and we’ll book it in quickly.
Can You Fix a Leak Without Lifting My Floorboards?
Often, yes. Many leaks can be reached through a bath panel, an access hatch or from below. We’ll only lift boards if there’s no other way.
Can You Fit Valves So I Don’t Have to Turn Everything Off?
Yes. Small isolation valves on the pipes to each toilet, sink and appliance let you shut off one item without cutting water to the whole house. They’re quick to fit, and very handy in an emergency.
My Shower Pump Has Stopped. Is That an Emergency?
If it’s your only shower, or it’s leaking, we’ll treat it as urgent.
Got a problem you’re not sure about? Call 0117 939 1421 and we’ll give you an honest answer.
